Root Beer has always been my soda of choice. Sure, I have had flings with Dr. Pepper or Mountain Dew, but time and again, I always return to the old stand by. Until now.
I have been looking over pictures from high school the past few days as we are cleaning and organizing, and I must confess myself a wee bit disappointed. Granted- I've never exactly been what you would call svelte, but seeing those pictures reminded me that I can be doing a lot better.
The only problem is I don't have a lot of discipline. So today Steve and I decided that step one of our "Get Back to Looking Slightly More Like We Did in High School" journey is to give up soda. I'm declaring it publicly so you can all help us feel guilted and/or motivated into sticking to our goal.
Don't worry- we certainly won't turn into those "I can't believe you let that poison into your body" folks. This is just the little thing we feel like we can do.
So farewell, my carbonated friend. Root Beer, I hardly knew ye. OK- that is a lie. I REALLY knew ye. But this is goodbye.

Hey Kristen, this is Analeis from Monroe! I found your blog through Lori's blog:)
Good luck on giving up the soda. My husband and I are in the process of giving it up as well. Cody is doing much better than I am! He's lost about ten pounds and I haven't lost any!
Good luck:)
Good luck in this worthy cause! My coworker did it and he used to drink over 44 ounces every morning.
One thing that might help you stay on track is if you let yourselves have ONE a week, or something like that. :)
I HATE soda (makes me sick to my stomach) so I've never had that problem.... sugar on the other hand...... HMMMMMMMM!
I wish I cou8ld convince Jimmy to give up his beloved Dew...but you know Jimmy. He does a LOT better than he used to though! At least I don't have it in the fridge anymore.
Good Luck!! This is my weakness too!!
Good luck, guys. Jaicee and I are not disciplined enough to diet. If you ever fall off the wagon, give us a call and we'll have a root beer with you.
I gave up anything carbonated in highschool due to advice from a track coach. The few dozen times since then I've had anything with fizz it has tasted awful to me- I think it's an acquired taste. So maybe if you leave it long enough, you won't like it when you try it again- so it won't be tempting to pick up the habit again. It's a smart way to cut out some excess calories (and dollars).
My husband and I drink only diet soda--and not that often. He used to be a huge root beer addict and now he hardly can enjoy it because it's so syrupy tasting compared to diet soda. However, IBC has a GREAT diet root beer. So if you want to treat yourself once a week to some carbonated goodness, try that and you can have the taste but without the calories.
Good luck!
