Last night as I was rocking my sweet Baby Elizabeth to sleep I whispered to her, "You is kind. You is smart. You is important." This comes from the movie The Help, and if you have not seen it, I highly recommend it. It comes from a part where the nanny/maid is holding the little girl she takes care of and wants her to hear positive words at least once a day. So each day she repeats this little affirmation since the child doesn't get much positive attention from anyone else. I decided that I would start saying this regularly to my own kids so they would know that they are capable of being smart and kind and that I know they are important.
But this morning when I was getting dressed, I felt impressed to look in the mirror and say the affirmation to myself. And so I did. It seems like I spend so much time being negative- "You aren't patient enough, you aren't good at keeping the house clean" etc, I often forget that I need positive reinforcement just as much as my kids.
I am making this part of my daily routine. You should as well. Because you is kind, smart and important too.
